Moray, Hopeman. Hopeman is a coastal village on the Moray Firth. As is the case with a number of other Scottish coastal villages Hopeman's origins lie in the fact that it grew in order to accommodate the growing number of people displaced by the clearances in the early 1800's. The name itself, Hopeman, is suggestive of the desire for a fresh start for those individuals who had been so cruelly displaced. File 0210.
